The Museum is housed in a 1934 building, which was recently expanded. In 2004 the re-opening part of relics and the museum reopened its doors to the public after many years of inactivity. The first room is dedicated to Marina Sgouros. In this room presents photographs excavation work in Thassos (1911-1981), when French archaeologists discovered the ancient city and the excavations conducted by the French Archaeological School.
Then it becomes a comprehensive presentation of settlement of Thassos from prehistoric times. Here's exposure to samples of archaic, classical, Hellenistic up to the Byzantine period. Characteristic exhibit of the museum is the impressive height of 3.50 meters kouros of the Archaic period, which represents a new naked man holding a ram (600 BC)
