CRETAN OPEN-AIR MUSEUM LYCHNOSTATIS

The ''LYCHNOSTATIS'' Museum in Hersonissos, it is a conservation and visibility area of Folk Life and Folk Culture of Crete. It is a Natural Folklore Museum with four main thematic collections:

1. FOLKLORE / ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION

[local occupations, customs, social attitudes and lifestyle, legends and other folklore-ethnographic data].

2. NATURALISTIC / COLLECTION OF CRETAN FLORA

[Cretan flora, which is presented through ethnic botanical elements, and mineral wealth of Crete].

3. ARTISTIC / FOLK ART COLLECTION

[Autodidacts Cretan artists with their works emerge as successors of anonymous folk art and the collective memory and cultural heritage of the site].

4. PRE-INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY / PRE-INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY COLLECTION

[machines operating in Crete during the late preindustrial period and features the expertise that existed].
