Beans - Vanilla Feneu The beans are annual herbaceous plants and belong to the family of Psyllium. Of the approximately 250 species of the genus Phaseolus, the species Phaseolus vulgaris belongs to the "vanilla bean". During the germination the plant has a stinging root, but lateral branching soon develops over the stinging root which grows only 10–15 cm long. It is generally characterized as a fringe plant, because usually the bulk of the root system is in the first 25cm of the soil. In the roots, in the presence of the appropriate nitrogen bacteria, germs are formed, in which symbiotic nitrogen binding takes place. The bean sprouts from the ground and the first leaves that appear above the ground are the cotyledon leaves. The first real leaves are simple, while the next are complex with three leaflets. Concerning the central shoot, the cotyledon leaves and the first leaves have opposite expression, whereas the compound leaves alternate. The shoot is relatively strong, upright, low in height and branched richly. The flowers are small and inflorescence 2–8 flowered at the top of a flower axis, which flows from the axillaries of the leaves. The color of the flowers is white. The bean is a self-pollinating plant. The fruit is lobed and contains 4 - 8 seeds, cylindrical with a convex end. The seeds are monochromatic, white in color and oval in shape, as opposed to the kidney of the commercially available beans. The size of the seeds is very small as the weight of 1000 seeds ranges from 270 gr to 280 gr.
