It revealed that the health level amongst Cretans was the highest in the world. Cardio-vascular illnesses and cancer were rare on the island. It was further proven that this was largely attributed to the dietary habits of the Cretan people, whose basic dietetic ingredient is olive oil, accounting for one third of their daily calorie intake.
