  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTION OF NEAPOLIS

    Open: Closed to the public.   The Archaeological Collection of Neapolis was created before World War II and within two years included around 1000 items, found mostly in the area of Mirambello and in other sites of the Prefecture. During the Italian rule, thanks to the efforts of Emm. Mavroeidis (then ektaktos curator of Antiquities) the Collection was protected in the underground of the Club. Today it is housed in a building ceded to the Ministry of Culture by the Ministry of Health and the Municipality. The Collection is temporarily closed to the public.   It includes:   - Finds from the excavations of the French School of Archaeology at Elounta (1937)   - Finds from the excavations of the French School of Archaeology at Hellenika (1937)   - Finds from the excavations of the French School of Archaeology at Dreros (1937)   - Finds from the excavations of Emm. Mavroeidis at a Late Minoan tomb in Tourloti, near Seteia   - Finds from the excavations of Emm. Mavroeidis at a Hellenistic tomb at Kalo Chorio (ancient Istrona),   - Finds from the area of Mirambello, collected or given to the Ephorate   -Antiquities collected by the Italian forces from Aghios Nikolaos (ancient Lato pros Kamara) and other areas of the Prefecture   - Numismatic collection (coins given by citizens)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF ABDERA

    Open: Monday-Sunday:08:30-15:00   For further information, please contact wih the Ephorate of Antiquities of Xanthi (+30 25410 51003, +30 25410 51783).   Tickets: Free admission.   The exhibition includes objects found in the ancient city and its cemeteries and covers the period from the 7th century BC until the 12th century AD. Its main objective is educational. It mainly displays the daily life of the ancient Avdirites through the objects used by ordinary people in their daily activities.   The exhibition is structured thematically. Each module includes all objects from the city life periods arranged according to their use. Each module is divided into thematic sub-groups:   I. Public Life (Religion, Administration, Military Activity, Coinage)   II. Private Life (Professional and Building Activities, Trade, Crafts and workshops, Domestic chores, Clothes-grooming, Children's life)   III. Burial Customs (Graves, Burial signals, Graves Representations).   In this way it presents the evolution of the city and gradual changes in the residents' lives and on the construction of the objects themselves become apparent. Illustrative texts, photographs, drawings, maps and diagrams provide additional information to the visitor.

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF AGIOS NIKOLAOS

    Open: Winter: From November 1 to March 31: 08:30-15:00   Summer: From July 1 to October 31 Monday: closed Tuesday - Sunday: 08:00 to 19:30   Tickets: Full: €3, Reduced: €2   The Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos was created to exhibit finds from eastern Crete which until then were transported to the Museum of Heraklion. The exhibition has not been finalized yet, but does cover a huge period from the Neolithic Age to the end of the Greco-Roman period. Visitors can follow the evolution of art in the region through representative samples of various styles and eras. Largest and most important groups are the offerings from the Early Minoan cemetery of Aghia Fotia, near Sitia (3000-2300 BC) in the first room and the findings from the palace of Mallia brought to light by the investigations of the French Archaeological School, in the fourth room. Most famous object is considered the libation vessel that became known as the "Goddess of Myrtos".

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF AGRINION

    Open: Tuesday - Sunday: 08:00-15:00.   Monday closed.   Tickets: Full: €2, Reduced: €1 Special ticket package: Full: €8, Reduced: €4   The Archaeological Museum of Agrinion was founded in the 1960s and housed in a building which was built with a donation of brothers Papastratos who dealt with tobacco trade in the early 20th century. The Papastratos brothers cared for their hometown and offered to it in numerous projects, including the Archaeological Museum of the city. The museum was opened in 1969 and has been operating in the same building until today. The large number of archaeological sites of the prefecture always supplied the museum with new findings.   The Archaeological Museum of Agrinion is located at the southeast corner of Papastratos park, next to the old Papastratos Library. Half the building housed the Municipal Library and the other half the museum. Now the entire building is housing the Museum and both Incorporated halls of the Library serve as a workshop and warehouse. The Museum's collections are being exhibited in the small hall and two rooms, and include pottery, tools, metal objects, tombstones and sculptures from various places of the county. In other words, the Museum contains the cultural treasures of the wider area of the region, dating from the Neolithic Age (7000 BC) to the late Roman period (4th century AD).

Special ticket package: Full: €6, Reduced: €3 The Museum is located in the centre of the archaeological site of ancient Corinth, in the middle of the modern, homonymous village, on the northern slope of Acrocorinth. It was built in 1931-1932, with the initiatie of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, designed by W. Stuart Thompson, thanks to the donation of Ada Small Moore. In its galleries finds currently exhibited, attest the continuous habitation of the area as well, while others are originated from selected archaeological sites of the Corinthia, from prehistoric times until the Byzantine period, are exhibited. Today, visitors can visit the Prehistoric and Roman Galleries, as well as the Asklepieion Gallery, where votive objects related to the healing power of the god are exhibited. In the Atrium, one can also admire a collection of Roman statues, sculpture and ancient inscriptions in both Greek and Latin, as well as finds from the Late Roman Jewish Synagogue of the city. The Classical Gallery is temporarily closed due to its re-exhibition, along with the exhibition of the East Gallery. The project is funded by ESPA 2007-2014 and excecuted by the 37th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Corinthia.

Dating from prehistoric times to the Roman era. The building complex of the museum consists of two parts, a listed monument, "Kallergeio" and a new wing. The permanent exhibition includes three halls. The largest room on the ground floor of the new section of the museum. In this, the exhibition follows a chronological order, with finds from the Middle Helladic period until classical times. Among the most important exhibits is a great funerary compass, one bronze armor, iron spits with krateftes in ship shape Geometric period (8th century BC), a crater part of the 7th century BC depicting the blinding of Polyphemus one lyre made with turtle shell and a red-figure Attic vase painter Ermonakta.   On the ground "Kallergeiou" finds from the prehistoric settlement of Lerna dating from the Early Neolithic Pperiod to the Mycenaean era are being exhibited. The most important exhibits are the clay female figurine Neolithic, the circular hearth and clay imprints seals from the first hellenic village of Lerna.   Upstairs the "Kallergeiou" sculptures from the region, mostly copies of classical works. Particularly noteworthy are a relief of Eumenides Hellenistic period and a copy of the so-called Hercules 'Farnese' of Lysippos.   In the courtyard of the museum has become a garden section representation Roman villa found on the street Gounari at Argos. In the galleries housed mosaics found in this or region. Distinguished hunting scenes with hawk and personalized seasons and months of the year.

    Open: The Museum is closed from 27/1/2014   The old museum was destroyed by the earthquakes in 1953 and the new one was built in 1960. It iw now closed for the public, due the earthquake of 2014.   The museum houses antiquities from the island of Kefalonia, ranging from the prehistoric to the Roman periods.   • ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF ARTA

    Open: Tuesday-Sunday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 pm   Tickets: Full: 3 €, Reduced: 2 €   The permanent exhibition refers primarily to Amvrakia, ancient city buried beneath Arta and contains three major sections: the public life, cemeteries and private life of Amvrakia while the beginning and end of the smallest located sections of entry and the "end of Amvrakia" respectively. The findings from the town of Arta originate from the excavations at the two cemeteries that Amvrakia had outside the walls, the east and the south, from public buildings that have been revealed so far, such as the Small and Grand Theatre, the Temple of Apollo and the Prytaneion, from houses and other architectural remains and pottery or koroplastika workshops, brought to light by occasional archaeological research in Arta. The findings of the Museum's collection cover a long period from the Stone Age to the Roman period.

    Open: Winter: 8.00-15.00   Summer: 8.00-15.00   8.00 - 15:00 Everyday except Monday   Tickets: Full: €2, Reduced: €1   The permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Atalanti includes archaeological finds from the systematic and rescue excavations of the east and west Lokrida. The material represents in a chronological order all stages of civilization, such as have been established in the rest of Greece and staggered chronologically from the Neolithic to the Roman years. All objects displayed in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Atalanti, following the cultural trends of their time, but also the preferences and needs of local groups in the region. Many of the objects in terms of themes, imagery and morphological features are unique to the character of the society that produced them.   Exhibition Units   The museum is housed in the old Atalanti Gymnasium building classified as a historical landmark. In three central halls of the building and the main hallway archaeological finds from rescue and systematic excavations of the area of eastern Lokrida and the northeastern part of ancient Fokida are being exhibited . Ancient objects chronologically cover all seasons of prehistoric and historic periods. In the hallway fitted stone objects have been placed. In their majority they are tombstones, one of which stands out the type of limestone as a bed.

The new permanent exhibition, running according to modern museological and museographic methods rich and varied finds from the excavations in the sanctuary of Vravrona and antiquities from the area of Mesogaias. It contains exhibits dating from the Paleolithic to the Late Roman period and from various excavations throughout the island of Evia. Large archaeological objects modules making up the report about the ceramic different time periods, the plastic from the Archaic to the Roman era, arms and in metallurgy, in mints from major cities of Gujarat and also the inscriptions and resolutions. The most important exhibits of the museum, which cause great impression, are those from the prehistoric settlement of Manika, but high art statues.
