The Cave of Perama, Ioannina, is located in the southern hills of Goritsa hill, at the highest point of the center of Perama village, ten meters higher than the middle level of Lake Pamvotis and at an altitude of 480 meters. The lake was previously communicating through a natural grove with Lake Lapis, in the northwestern part of the basin, which was drained during the 1950s to create the Lapista plain. Many limestone hills form a special landscape, linked to historic sites, such as Castricca, Bizani, Perama Cave and Gardenia Kastri. Geologically, the area belongs to the Ionian zone with limestones dominating. Occasionally, minimum bladder zones are encountered. The main water body of the area is Lake Pamvotis, which flows through several streams of the basin. The climate of the region is that of the mild Mediterranean type, with too many rains, frequent fogs and dry summer.
