His first encounter came when, as a student, he decided to “tinker with” his very first bouzouki — and from that moment on, he never stopped. Through studies and experimentation alongside luthiers in Athens, he perfected his craft. Today, he continues with the same dedication to create instruments that stand out for their quality, sound and warmth, instruments that “speak” to the soul of every musician. For Kostas Halios, luthiery is not simply a craft, but a way of life. Passion is the driving force behind every creation; perfection in sound and ease of playability are the goals of every instrument. Through experimentation, the selection of premium woods and detailed work on the soundboard, the “heart” of the sound, each instrument acquires its own unique personality. Passion Every instrument we build in our workshop is crafted with dedication and genuine passion, ensuring the best possible sound. Tradition Our technique is rooted in the tradition of Greek luthiery, combining classical craftsmanship with modern needs. Quality The quality of materials and attention to detail make every bouzouki, tzouras or baglamas truly unique. CONTACT Come and experience the magic of luthiery up close, discuss your needs with us and create the instrument that will accompany you for a lifetime. MORECategory: TRADITIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Mountrianakis Stelios & Pavlos - Handmade Cretan Lyre Manufacturing Workshop - Chania Crete
Mountrianakis Stelios & Pavlos Workshop for Making Handmade Cretan Lyres - Chania Crete In Chania, Mr. Stelios Mountrianakis, originally from Rethymnon, has been making handmade Cretan lyres since 1983, together with his son Pavlos, who from a very young age followed his father to wherever the workshop was eager to learn the art he was doing, he started making Cretan lyre in 2009. Making the Cretan lyre is a hobby, says Mr. Stelios Mountrianakis. Who from his childhood remembers his grandfather in Rethymnon making and playing the Cretan lyre and since then Mr. Stelios was attached to the lyre. When he was twelve years old, Mr. Stelios asked his parents to buy him a Cretan lyre, but they did not do so for fear of leaving the letters. So he became a soldier and when he was 22 years old he bought his first lyre and with great difficulty began to learn. Then at the age of 33 he started to get more involved and make lyres until in 2000 he created the Cretan lyre making workshop in Chania, Crete. To make a professional lyre, it takes more than sixty hours on the chisel, Mr. Stelios tells us. To make a lyre, we use three types of wood, in the three different main parts that make up the instrument. The main point of construction in a lyre I think is to make a good speaker. Mulberry wood, walnut, aspen, pear, rosewood are usually used. Every wood has its own secret. Walnut makes a sweeter sound, mulberry more sour. The construction of a musical instrument is a complex process that must be followed with the delicacy of a surgeon and the reverence of a hagiographer.Category: TRADITIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
