Since then, the Museum worked like a magnet, attracting many other donations, thus includes about 15,000 objects Asian art from private collections and donations of individual objects. Particularly donation Hatzivassiliou in 1973 with the addition of 400 works from India, Pakistan, Tibet, Siam and Southeast Asia, has changed the nature strictly sinoiaponiko Museum and resulted in the renaming of a Museum of Asian Art.

Its purpose is to collect, protect, study and display works of art and objects which chronologically cover the early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine period. The works being stored and displayed in the spaces come from the geographical area of Macedonia and particularly from Thessaloniki, the most important center of the European part of the Byzantine Empire after Constantinople.   The museum collections include sculptures, mosaics, frescoes, icons coins, inscriptions, pottery, manuscripts, miniature objects and glass.

  • MUSEUM OF CRETAN ETHNOLOGY

    Open: April-October: daily 10.00-18.00   Tickets: Full: € 3, Reduced: €  1,5   The ethnographic museum and its exhibits cover the second millennium AD in Crete. In the first phase of the historical development of the island with the retrieval by the Byzantines in 963 and their presence until 1205, the Cretan people entering the Greek revival of the Middle Ages. Over the next 700 years of occupation by the Venetians and Turks, the people he will not only not succumb to cultural occupiers, but will evolve creatively through the centuries, maintaining the standards of the empire.   • MUSEUM OF CYCLADIC ART-NICHOLAS P. GOULANDRIS FOUNDATION

A new building was designed and erected for that purpose in the centre of Athens, on 4 Neophytou Douka Str. Since 1991 the Museum has acquired a new wing, the magnificent neo-classical Stathatos House on the corner of Vassilissis Sophias and Herodotou Streets..   The Nicholas P. Goulandris Foundation, to which Dolly Goulandris donated the collection in 1985, is dedicated to the study and promotion of Aegean Studies, and Cycladic culture in particular. The exhibition at the Museum of Cycladic Art, and the temporary exhibitions organised every year, reflect these interests.

  • MUSEUM OF DIONYSIOS SOLOMOS AND EMINENT ZAKYNTHIANS

    Open: Monday-Sunday: 09.00-14.00 & 19.00-22.00   The Museum consists of the following: the ground floor are the Dionysios Solomos Room, the Room of Eminent Zakynthians, the D. Romas Room and the Nicholas and Thaleia Kolyva Room, in which an important number of the manuscripts of the national poet Dionysios Solomos are kept, as well as some of his personal belongings, a rich collection of portaits of eminent Zakynthians, and an important collection of icons. The Museum also has a well-stocked library containing a large collection of documents, and also period furniture, an archaeological and folk art collection as well as a collection of photographs.

  • MUSEUM OF ENGRAVINGS AND GRAPHIC ARTS

    Open: Winter: November 1-March 31: 08.30-15.00   To date, over 3000 works of Greek engravers have been collected, as well as 300 books and other objects related to the field of Graphic Arts. The present administration of the Ionian Bank has already secured a building to house the collection and is proceeding to the foundation of the first Museum of Engravings and Graphic Arts in Greece, which is also the one of the very few in the whole Europe. The Museum is housed in an attractive neoclassical building in Aghias Philotheis Street, near the Cathedral church Athens.   The Museum aims to cover the entire spectrum of modern Greek engraving as well as that of foreign artists who have chosen subjects related to Greece.

  • MUSEUM OF EPIRUS FOLK ART

    Open: Winter: From the 1st of November until the 31 of March: 08:30-15:00   In 1976, the state sold it to the Society for Epirotic Studies (SES) that remodeled its interior to house the "Kostas Frontzos" Museum of Epirus' Folk Art. The quality and the quantity of the collection of the museum's exhibits is unique for the region of Epirus and is considered as one of the most significant and equal in value to other relevant collections.

  • MUSEUM OF GREEK POPULAR INSTRUMENTS

    Open: Tuesday to Sunday 08:00-15:00 Monday Closed   Tickets: Free admission   About half of the instruments forming the Anoyanakis Collection are on public display. They have been selected on the criterion not only of their aesthetic and decorative value but, in particular, of their ethnological and musicological interest. The remaining instruments are available for research and for travelling exhibitions to be held in schools etc and for occasional exhibitions of a special nature.   The permanent exhibition is spread over three floors and divided into four sections, corresponding to the groups of determined by the material that is made to vibrate in order to produce sound, namely:   - Membranophones (ground floor): Toumbelekia (pottery drums),daoulia (drums), defia (tambourines) - Aerophones (ground floor): Flogeres - souravlia - mandoures (flutes),tsabounes, gaides (bagpipes), zournades (shawms), - Chordophones (first floor): Tambourades, laghouta (long-necked lutes), outia (short-necked lutes), quitars , mandolins, dulcimers etc., - Idiophones: koudounia (bells), massies (tongs with cymbals),simandro (semanterion) etc.

  • MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND ART OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF THE HOLY CITY OF MESOLONGHI

    Open: Monday-Friday: 09:00-13:30 & 16:00-19:00 Saturday-Sunday: 09:00-13:00 & 16:00-19:00   Tickets: Free admission   The Museum is housed in a double-storeyed neoclassical house dating to 1931.   The Museum's collection includes authentic paintings and reproductions of scenes of the heroic sortie of Missolonghi, portaits of philhellenes and of Greek chieftains authentic 1837 engravings by the Englishman, Friedel, 1826 guns, coins and medals plaster busts of the five Missolonghian prime ministers.   Also exhibited are personal items and manuscripts belonging to Lord Byron together with paintings of his visits to Greece and a bust copied from his statue in Cambridge.

  • MUSEUM OF NEA MONI CHIOS

    Open: Monday: closed Tuesday-Sunday: 08.00-13.00   Tickets: Full: € 2, Reduced: € 1   The museum is installed in the upper floor of the building, which consists of two continuous rooms for the exhibition and one small room for the guards. At the ground floor there is a small oratory and a store room. W.C. facilities have been arranged at the back of the museum.   Because of the pillage that the Monastery suffered by the Turks during the massacres of Chios at 1822, the items exhibited are not numerous and date mostly after that time. Among them, post-Byzantine icons, ecclesiastical silverworks, ecclesiastical and popular embroideries and woven textiles are included.

To the right of the entrance, the new wing houses the collection of objects dating from the Prehistoric to the Roman age, while the old building hosts exhibits dating from the Early Christian to the Post-Byzantine age, as well as various exhibits from the Modern age.

The exhibition in the Museum gallery holds archaeological finds coming from the systematic excavations of the American School of Classical Studies in the area and dated from the Neolithic to the Post-byzantine and Ottoman periods.   The Museum exhibition is organized in chronological and thematic units that reveal aspects of the public and private life in ancient Athens.

  • MUSEUM OF THE GONIA MONASTERY

    Open: 08:30-15:00 In the Ecclesiastical Museum of the Monastery of Gonia there among others portraits of the 14th century by the famous painter Andrea Rizzo era. There you can see works of Constantine Paliokapa, who lived in the 17th century, as well as codes and manuscripts that were able to rescue the monks over the centuries.   Besides other relics in the Ecclesiastical Museum of the Monastery of Gonia exposed and collection of vestments priests. Near the monastery is the Orthodox Academy of Crete, a very important contemporary religious and spiritual foundation of the Archdiocese of Crete.
