ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THEBES
Open: Winter: From the 1st of November until the 31 of March 2010: 8:30-15:00 Tickets: Full: €2, Reduced: €1 The permanent exhibition of the Thebes Archaeological Museum comprises characteristic finds from Greek and foreign excavations conducted in Boiotia, which span the long chronological period from the Paleolithic to the Post-byzantine periods. Some of its collections are especially interesting because they are unique; for example the Near Eastern Bronze Age cylinder seals from the Theban palace in the Kadmeion, the Mycenaean larnakes from Tanagra, the Archa?c kouroi from Ptoon and the characteristic black stone Classical funerary stelai. CHAIRONEIA ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Open: Winter(November 1-May 31): 08.00-15.00 Closed every Monday Tickets: Full: €2, Reduced: €1 The exhibits are very important and include, among other things, sculptures from Livadeia and Chaironeia (Cybele, Demeter, portrait of Emperor Hadrian, Athena Kranai, stone ball with relief figures of the Sun and Moon), pottery from prehistoric and historic sites in the area Chaironeia, Elateia, Orchomenos, the Exarch and Saint Theodoros of Antikyra, pieces of Mycenaean murals from Orchomenos, coins and weapons from the tomb of the Macedonians and polyandreion Thebans at Chaeronea. In recent years the museum's collections have been enriched with the findings of the excavations of the Ephorate in Orchomenos, Livadeia, Viotia Kifissos (large cemetery archaic) and Chaironeia (Roman farmhouses, tombs of classical and Hellenistic periods).Category: MUSEUMS

DISTOMO ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTION
Open: Winter: From November 1 to May 31: 08:00-15:00 Summer: From April 29 to October 31 7:30 to 14:00 Closed on Mondays Tickets: Full: € 2, Reduced: € 1 Special ticket package: Full: € 2, Reduced: € 1 The permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Collection of Distomo presents the history of the ancient Phocean city of Ambrossos and its broader region. The exhibits date from the Mycenaean to the Early Christian periods and come from rescue excavations of the Tenth Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. The most important finds are the Mycenaean to Roman pottery, the funerary larnax, the folding bronze mirror and fragments of the floor mosaic from the Early Christian basilica of Distomo, and the objects from Antikyra and Medeon, nearby cities of ancient Phocis on the modern coast of Distomo. Exhibition Units - Funerary stelai (Entrance hall) Eight funerary stelai with palmette or pediment-shaped crowning members from Distomo, which date to the Classical and Hellenistic periods, are presented in this unit. - Antiquities from Distomo (First room) This unit comprises finds of various periods from rescue excavations at Distomo. - Pottery (Second room) The development of local pottery from Mycenaean to Roman times is illustrated through a series of vases from the greater region of Distomo (Zemenos, Karakolithos, Medeon, Antikyra).Category: MUSEUMS

SCHIMATARI ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Open: Summer(June 01-October 31): Tuesday-Sunday: 09.00-16.00 Winter(November 01-May 31): Tuesday-Sunday: 07.00-15.00 Tickets: Full: € 2, Reduced: € 1 The Schimatari Archaeological Museum was built from 1890 to 1904 and it is the oldest of Viotia. Founded at the expense of the Archaeological Society to house finds, which came mainly from the necropolis and tanagraikes gathered from collections and from the first excavations of the Archaeological Society. Many tombstones were what remained of the desecration of ancient graves in early 1870. The aim of the illegal excavations were excellent art clay figurines, the "Tanagra" channeled illegally abroad, mainly. The museum closed in 1983 for repairs and modernization. The aim was to reopen with new form and enrich the report with the findings of more recent excavations. The Re-Museum to the public by September 2006.Category: MUSEUMS
